Nicolas PAGNOL
“Living in Paris for the last 25 years, Provence is still in my blood. From my childhood spent in an old farmhouse close to Nice to my frequent professional stays in the Bouches-du-Rhône, and of course my family origins, this region is omnipresent in my daily life.
But which Provence are we talking about? The one of my grandfather Marcel Pagnol or the one of today?
The Côte d'Azur has been invaded by retirees from all over the world, the Bouches-du-Rhône has been over-industrialized. My childhood with the farmers and fishermen in pointus has disappeared and I thought I would never see again this traditional culture that I loved so much... until I discovered the Luberon. Here, time seems to have passed less quickly than elsewhere, the acceleration of our lives seems less present, the landscapes and the old farms keep resisting the concrete.
And what can I say about these small valleys at the foot of the Luberon Massif when the spring light is shaving the wheat fields... I would like to dive in!
A coffee in Lourmarin, antiques shopping in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, hiking to the Abbey of Sénanque, visiting Lacoste and Gordes out of season... Provence has survived !”
