The Bories village of Gordes is a dry stone residential complex called Bories. This "village" is unique in that it has many of them in a single geographic point, it is relatively complete (old ovens, houses, threshing floors, silkworm, crushers, tanks, storage place, shelters stables type of beasts, or chevrières sties, etc.). This allows visitors to imagine and easy life of the community.
The site is located opposite the Luberon where, when looking above the oaks, one can enjoy beautiful views of it.
There are seven groups of Bories, all near each other and forming a coherent whole and great place to visit, for both adults and children.
The Village des Bories is located in the village of Gordes (84220) and can be visited. A very nice path leads to the site winding between stone walls. The bravest visitors would walk from the first carpark, others may wish to drive closer.

Bories are classified historical monuments. The name "Borie", as often, can have many origins, but whether it is Provençal or Latin, none have been proven more accurate than the other.
For the record, when the former owner (now deceased) of what was yet to be called a "village" of Bories sought of selling part of its vast terrain where these bories were, his first idea was to sell it to an individual. It is therefore naturally that he came to see Rosier agency at the time, formerly called "Gordes Immobilier". This is Mr. Rosier, Christian-Jacques, the founder, aware of the quality of this heritage, who then convinced him to contact the town hall directly (or otherwise the department) to make it a place of open tour to the public.
