Roussillon est l’un des villages les plus beaux de Provence et fait parti des plus beaux villages de France.
Il frappe tous ses visiteurs par la couleur inhabituelle de ses terres et de ses maisons. Cette terre rouge vient de la forte présence de minerai de fer dans le sol.
On parle d'ocres.
Les remarquables carrières et falaises d’ocres de Roussillon caractérisent ce site merveilleux dominé par le village.
Le ramassage de l'ocre est interdit, mais il existe plusieurs lieux où on peut en acheter.
