Robion in Luberon, between Les Taillades and Maubec, towards Gordes

Robion is a small village with charm nestled on the northern foothills of the Petit Luberon, close to Les Taillades and the small village of Maubec.

From Cavaillon, take the road towards Coustellet, Gordes or Apt.

The caves were inhabited in ancient times during the Palaeolithic (important ossuary on Font-Blanco). The presence of water sources and its location just off the Calavon valley and the via Domitia made it a perfect place to create and develop a village.

In the XIII century, the village acquires a castle which was destroyed during the Revolution, and a double enclosure where few traces remain today. During the wars of religions, the church was destroyed by the Baron of Adrets.

It is quite pleasant to go for a stroll in the streets of the old village. It may be noted: a superb fountain, a large tree of liberty, the church Notre-Dame and Sainte-Quitterie, old doors or stairs carved directly into the rock called "the staircase of the Giants".

The cemetery is located at the end of the village from the East, towards Coustellet. As tombstones sculpture was a specific craft mastered in the village in the nineteenth century, the cemetery has the distinction of having the tombstones effigies of their occupants’ ancient crafts: the hunter with two guns and a bag; the stonecutter with square, scissors and compasses; the farmer / wine maker with barrels, grapes and vine leaves, etc. To be seen only if the idea of going for a walk in a cemetery does not put you off!

There are also several chapels around the village of Robion. It may be noted the Saint-Roch chapel dating from the plague of 1633, the chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Anges from 1709 and the Saint-Peyre chapel, a roman ruin.

Finally, Robion, with other neighboring municipalities, is part of Coustellet.
