Bonnieux en Luberon

Do you know the hilltop village of Bonnieux in Luberon?

This is one of those superb Provencal hilltop villages, preserved in their architecture and character, offering spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. In its narrow and shaded streets, charming shops, diverse restaurants and cozy cafés will welcome you.

It is located on the northern slope of the Luberon, between the Grand and Petit Luberon, facing the village of Lacoste and controls the entrance to the valley which leads to the Combe de Lourmarin, the passage through the Luberon.

The village is dominated by its Old Church also called High Church of the XIIth century, combining Roman and Gothic elements. Another church or New Church was built in 1870.
You will find the remains of towers and ramparts of the XIIth century and the Hotel de Rouville, beautiful XVIIIth century building (who was the former town hall and happens to be the annex to the present town hall). Along the lanes, some beautiful old mansions date back from XVIth, XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries and have been carefully restored.

5 km to the north, Pont Julien is a beautiful Roman building, from the year 3 BC,  on the Domitian road, in service until 2005.

Do not miss a walk in the forest of cedars on the Petit Luberon which expands its 250 hectares over the villages of Bonnieux, Lacoste and Menerbes. To view, take the direction of Lourmarin. From the Moroccan Atlas, the cedars were planted under Napoleon III in 1862.
